The first night on board AIDAvita on our cruise of Florida and the Caribbean already behind us. We woke up on Saturday morning just as we docked in Port Canaveral, Florida and prepared to go on our day trip. A visit to the Kennedy Space Center to see the Space Shuttle Atlantis.
The sun was shining and it was already warm as we enjoyed our breakfast in the outside are of the restaurant.
Space exploration and space flight has always been something which I have been interested in and I was eager to see a real Space Shuttle with my own eyes.
My tip to anyone visiting who wants to get a photograph of Atlantis without people in the shot is to hang right to the back of the group. Hold back as you make your way through the various displays and interactive light shows, before the curtain goes up and you see the Shuttle.
Because the next group will be some minutes behind you, there will be plenty of time after everyone from your group has made their way forwards and out of shot.
Make a Whole Day Of It
Besides the Space Shuttle Atlantis, there is lots to see at the Kennedy Space center, such as the real suits of the real astronauts who have been into space and to the moon. Those who are visiting for the whole day however have plenty of time not to have to rush around.
I find it incredible to think that men went all the way to the moon and back in this Apollo Command Module. Hopefully we will go back to the moon one day soon. With today’s technology both for getting there and for recording videos and taking photographs there it really would be an amazing event to be a part of.
Space Shuttle Atlantis – an Awesome Craft
For the shot below of the entire fuselage of Atlantis, I waited a while to get as few people as possible in the shot, but alas this was the closest I got to it.
