After arriving in St. Louis early afternoon, after a long flight from Europe (via Chicago) , I used the free afternoon to take a look around the city. My primary objective was to stay awake, so that I would be able to get some sleep that night and not wake up at 4 a.m. because of jet-lag, and my secondary objective was to visit the St. Louis Gateway Arch.
The $10 to got up to the top of the arch is well worth it. The reward is a great view of the city on one side, and of the Mississippi River on the other. It is probably one to miss if you are claustrophobic though as the lift cars are like being inside a washing machine drum with no windows and a few bumps and screeching noises. Scary.
